1911 Census Update ver 3

Well the story continues with further pressure from the Genealogy Community. The government have a website dedicated to Petitions called The e-petitions system, Image which was launched in November 2006.

After discussions on the soc.genealogy.britain Google newsgroup,Image  a number of posters have got together and  formulated a petition on the UK Census as follows:

  • We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to reduce the classified period for census data from 100 years to 70 years.
  • This would allow census information from 1911, 1921 and 1931 to be used by the general public researching their family history in the absense (or failing memories) of their elderly relatives. Birth, Marriage and Death information is already available so why is information about where people lived hidden.

If you are like minded and need to have the census opened to genealogists then
visit the government e-petitions website Image to cast your vote now.
